Life & Work with Brittney of Virginia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittney.

Hi Brittney, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my business as a result of the pandemic in 2021. At the time, I was in my third year of teaching, and while navigating hybrid instruction, I discovered a love and passion that extended beyond the traditional classroom setting. As a teacher, I had always supported students through various learning structures, but virtual learning introduced me to a new way of connecting with and supporting students.

Through building meaningful relationships, creating engaging lessons, and witnessing students’ growth in a virtual environment, I realized the impact I could have beyond the classroom. Those experiences inspired me to create my business, which continues to provide support and learning opportunities for students today.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Throughout my journey, I have encountered challenges in various areas. One of the most common challenges has been managing scheduling conflicts. Tutoring requires consistency and commitment from both the tutor and families. Students often balance multiple responsibilities, including academic commitments, extracurricular activities, and recreational activities, which can make finding consistent session times challenging. Effective communication and flexibility are essential when coordinating schedules to meet the needs of each student and family.

In 2024, I began offering preferred session options to provide families with greater flexibility. Families can choose from 60-minute, 45-minute, or 30-minute sessions based on their student’s needs, availability, and goals. This approach allows for more personalized scheduling, flexibility in the number of sessions students receive each week, and more affordable options for families.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
When I think about what sets my tutoring business apart, I reflect on the experiences, perspectives, and values that have shaped my approach to education. As a Haitian American educator, I have had the opportunity to work in diverse learning environments, pursue higher education at esteemed institutions, and connect with individuals who have challenged and inspired me to continue growing. These experiences have influenced the way I support students and have strengthened my belief that every learner deserves instruction that recognizes their unique abilities and potential.

My approach goes beyond academics by focusing on building confidence, fostering independence, and creating a learning environment where students feel valued and supported. I believe that every student has strengths that can be leveraged to help them overcome challenges and achieve success.

I specialize in supporting students in Pre-K through eighth grade across multiple content areas, including students with diverse learning needs and those working to close academic gaps. Each session is personalized to meet the student where they are, providing targeted instruction that aligns with their learning style, pace, and goals. Through intentional support and meaningful connections, students are encouraged to grow both academically and personally.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I have been blessed with many opportunities and experiences throughout my life. Through every decision and season, God has shown me the importance of living by faith and not by sight. When challenges arise, I choose to reflect on what those moments are teaching me and how they are helping me grow rather than focusing on temporary obstacles or circumstances that may change.

My faith has been the foundation that guides me, strengthens me, and provides me with the purpose and perseverance needed to continue this work. As I continue on this journey, I will carry that same faith, trust, and commitment into the impact I hope to make through my business and the students and families I serve.
