Today we’d like to introduce you to Cameron Brown.
Hi Cameron, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
MindsVaultMedia (MVM) is a Northern Virginia-based video production and creative strategy company I founded to help businesses, brands, and organizations tell compelling stories through professional videography, photography, and content creation.
We specialize in brand videos, client testimonials, promotional content, social media videos, event coverage, photography, and creative strategy.
Our mission is simple: Create content that doesn’t just look good, but serves a purpose, connects with audiences, and helps businesses grow.
My Background
My love for cameras, photography, and video started long before I ever considered turning it into a career.
Growing up, I was always fascinated by cameras and the ability to capture moments through photos and videos. I would always sneak off with my parents’ phones and laptops just to record videos, take pictures, and play around with whatever creative ideas came to mind.
I wasn’t thinking about making money or starting a company. I just genuinely loved creating things.
One of the biggest turning points came when my dad challenged me to take a digital camera on a trip and create a photo album documenting the experience. Shortly afterward, he bought me my very first camera.
That small challenge helped turn something I enjoyed into a bigger passion
College: $50 Headshots & Finding My Creative Side
Fast-forward to college, my career plans actually had nothing to do with photography or videography.
I was studying exercise science, which is ultimately what I earned my undergraduate degree in. My goal at the time was to pursue a career in physical therapy.
But even while studying something completely different, my love for cameras was always there.
During my undergraduate years, I started finding small ways to make money with photography like shooting $50 headshots right out of my dorm room.
I also landed a work-study position with my college’s media team, which gave me opportunities to gain hands-on experience, work on creative projects, and further develop my photography and videography skills.
After Graduation: The Weekend That Changed Everything
After graduating with my degree in exercise science, I began preparing for the next step: applying to graduate school for physical therapy.
I started working part-time at the university I hoped to attend.
My plan was to continue working, complete the remaining courses I needed, and eventually apply to their physical therapy program. Eventually, I ran into a problem – I ran out of money to continue paying for the courses I needed.
After trying a bunch of different things, I finally got around to shooting some photos to scrape together some extra cash over the weekend.
And that weekend changed my entire perspective. In just one weekend, I made roughly $1,000–$1,500 — more than I was making in an entire month at my part-time job.
That was a huge eye-opening moment.
Here I was, working toward a career in physical therapy, when something I’d loved doing since childhood had just earned me more in a weekend than my regular job paid in a month. At that point, the lightbulb in my head had finally turned on.
Building MindsVaultMedia While Working Part-Time
After that experience, I continued working part-time while using my free time to lay the groundwork for what would eventually become MindsVaultMedia.
I was building websites, developing my portfolio, taking on side projects, improving my skills, and learning as much as I could about running a business.
Eventually, after putting in the groundwork, I felt ready to take the leap and pursue MindsVaultMedia full-time.
Launching a Business During a Global Pandemic
In early 2020, I finally made the decision to leave my part-time job and go all in on building my business.
Two weeks later, COVID-19 hit, and the world fully shut down.
Businesses were closing, events were being canceled, and uncertainty was everywhere. The industries I hoped to work with were suddenly navigating challenges nobody could have predicted.
To make matters worse, returning to my previous job wasn’t an option.
I had spent all this time preparing to become an entrepreneur and when i finally launched, I was being thrown into it under some of the most unpredictable circumstances imaginable.
I didn’t really have a backup plan anymore, so I did the only thing I could do.
I went all in.
I focused on finding opportunities, building relationships, improving my skills, and figuring out how to make this business work.
And just two months later, I hit my first $10,000 month.
That experience completely changed my perspective on entrepreneurship.
What initially felt like one of the worst possible times to launch a company became one of the most defining moments of my career.
Where MindsVaultMedia Is Today
Since then, I’ve continued growing MindsVaultMedia into a creative production company serving businesses, entrepreneurs, nonprofits, and organizations across a variety of industries.
What started with a kid borrowing his parents’ devices, a camera from his dad, and $50 dorm-room headshots has evolved into a business built around helping others communicate their stories through powerful visual content.
And the funny thing is, none of this was originally my career plan.
I went to college for exercise science. I wanted to become a physical therapist. Photography and videography were simply things I enjoyed doing.
But through a series of unexpected opportunities, challenges, and decisions, I discovered that something I’d been passionate about my entire life could become a sustainable career.
Along the way, I’ve learned that building a successful creative business takes much more than knowing how to use a camera.
It requires understanding people, marketing, sales, communication, client relationships, and the systems necessary to turn a creative passion into a successful business.
Those experiences have also inspired me to help other aspiring photographers, videographers, and creators navigate their own entrepreneurial journeys.
Through MindsVaultMedia, my educational content, and the lessons I’ve learned from building my own business, I want to show other creatives that it’s possible to make a living doing something they genuinely love.
My Philosophy
You don’t have to have everything figured out to get started.
My entrepreneurial journey wasn’t perfectly planned.
I originally pursued an entirely different career path, stumbled into an opportunity that made me rethink my future, and eventually launched a business just two weeks before a global pandemic shut down the world.
There were financial challenges, unexpected obstacles, and plenty of moments when I had to figure things out as I went.
But every experience taught me something valuable.
And ultimately, one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that sometimes the opportunities that change your life come from recognizing what’s already in front of you — and being willing to bet on yourself.
Today, my mission remains twofold:
Help businesses grow through meaningful, strategic visual storytelling — and help other creatives build successful businesses doing what they love.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?

I’m the founder and owner of MindsVaultMedia (MVM), a video production and creative media company based in Northern Virginia. We specialize in helping businesses, brands, and organizations tell their stories through professional videography, photography, and strategic content creation. From brand videos and testimonials to promotional content, social media, and event coverage, our goal is to create visuals that not only look great but genuinely connect with people and help businesses grow.
What I’m most proud of is my personal and professional growth. What started as a childhood passion for cameras eventually turned into a career and a business that allows me to do what I love every day. But beyond the business itself, I’m most grateful for the opportunity to **use my gifts and creativity to help others succeed.** Whether that’s helping a small business gain visibility, capturing an important moment, or supporting an organization doing meaningful work, there’s something incredibly rewarding about knowing my work makes a difference.
I also take a lot of pride in being involved in my community, building genuine relationships, and having the opportunity to contribute to the success of the people and businesses around me.
I think what sets me apart is my approach to storytelling and the relationships I build with my clients. I’m not just interested in showing up with a camera and delivering a video. I genuinely want to understand the people behind the business, what they’re trying to accomplish, and how my creativity can help them get there.
**For me, success isn’t just about growing MindsVaultMedia. It’s about growing alongside the people and communities I have the privilege of working with.**
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Personally: Authenticity & personal growth! I don’t think you should stay stagnant for too long, I think we as humans are meant to explore & grow. I’m also a strong believer of being yourself, and pursuing your dream/passion.
Business wise: Make strong connections with the right with the right clients, and creating video/photo assets that tell their story, help them grow, achieve their goals.
