Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Bretcher.
Hi Chelsea, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Chelsea Bretcher I am a 35 year old mom of one living in Richmond, Virginia. During my pregnancy my husband and I decided it made the most sense for our family for me to become a stay at home mom at the end of my maternity leave. Being a stay at home mom was what I always dreamed I would do when I became a mom and was so excited about the opportunity. About a year after my daughter was born I realized I had lost some parts of myself in motherhood and started posting on TikTok as a way to express myself creatively and try and gain some of my personality back. I quickly fell in love with making content and making connections with women with similar interests and similar phases of life. I then took the jump to posting on Instagram as well to find even more community and have enjoyed every part of the process!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
While the journey has been exciting and fulfilling it hasn’t been without its challenges. The hardest part for me has always been comparison. Comparing myself to how much other people post and how often, how their content may look more professional or how quickly their following has grown. I will say that used to bother me a lot more than it does now, I try to just focus on posting content I am proud of and enjoy rather than creating content with the hopes of it going viral or raising my follower count.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My content very much mirrors my life. How I got into posting consistently was posting my outfit for the day, usually as I got back from dropping my daughter off at her preschool program. My outfits weren’t ground breaking by any means, but I think that’s what resonated with people. I wasn’t trying to be extremely fashion forward, just showing what an every day outfit looked like for a mom going about her day and expressing herself through her outfits. I would say I’m most proud of constantly creating original content, I try to not follow what is trending unless I think I have something meaningful to add and just stick to topics I’m actually enjoying at the time. I also love highlighting local businesses, some of my most popular videos are extremely simple walk throughs highlighting a locally owned business, like a thrift or antique store. I love shopping at these stores and want them to be experienced by others as well.
What matters most to you? Why?
Being original and true to myself matters to me most. At the end of the day I have to be proud of the content I am creating and putting out there for others to consume. People can see through when you are trying to put on a front or a facade of some sort and don’t want to support it or engage with it. But if you are yourself and focus on what you truly love and want to share with others you will eventually find your community and what keeps people coming back.
