Today we’d like to introduce you to Danasia Crazé.
Hi Danasia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I joined Instagram in 2014 and began posting outfit pictures in middle school. By 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, I started posting pictures of myself more frequently to get my name out there. I began doing my own photoshoots to showcase my different fashion tastes. As I became more confident in myself, I started sharing more of my alternative and goth style.
My posts eventually reached the right audience; people who shared my interest in the same fashion niche and my following began to grow. I became known for my big afro and for creating content centered around goth makeup, alternative fashion, and Black alternative aesthetics. At the time my name on social media was known under the user @dripset.nasiaa then I changed it to @danasiacraze in the beginning of 2025. Over the years, I’ve continued to experiment with my appearance as my personal style has evolved.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In the beginning, it was challenging to put myself out there and show who I really was. I would procrastinate and try to fit in with others because I felt like it was the normal thing to do. Eventually, I overcame that feeling, and little by little, I began expressing myself through fashion.
My style was considered unusual by some people because I didn’t fit the typical stereotypes that people often place on Black girls and women. I chose to ignore those expectations because I no longer cared about fitting in. People were going to judge me either way.
Honestly, it became easier over the years as I grew more confident in myself. Others also started treating me differently once I gained a following on social media.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I create artwork in both digital and traditional mediums. Traditional art has always been one of my favorite forms of artistic expression. Growing up, I always wanted to become an artist, and before I became known for fashion, creating art was what I was recognized for in school.
Selling illustrations of my classmates and people outside of school was another way I began putting myself out there as an artist. My art name goes by @NasiaDrawss since middle school. One of my favorite art challenges to participate in was DTIYS (Draw This in Your Style), which allowed me to explore different artistic interpretations and styles.
As I got older, my artwork evolved from drawing a variety of subjects to focusing more specifically on character design. During my time at Virginia Union University (VUU), I completed an internship at the university’s art museum, VUUMOAA. I also gained experience assisting as an art teacher for children at a recreation center. Later, I transferred to the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), where I continued pursuing my artistic interests.
I’m proud of how I’ve continued to evolve creatively while exploring different forms of self-expression. What sets me apart is my ability to combine my love for art, character design, and alternative fashion to create a distinctive visual identity.
What does success mean to you?
Maybe I’m just simple, but I would define success as accomplishing something I’ve always desired to do or have, whether it’s for myself or for others.
