Life & Work with Kimberly Johnson of Virginia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Johnson.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am a registered nurse with my associate and bachelor’s degree in nursing. My journey to becoming an entrepreneur came with me trying to decide what I wanted my master’s degree to be. I thought about getting my master’s degree in nursing or a master’s of science in nursing education. I ultimately decided to obtain my master’s degree in therapeutic herbalism. Starting a business came with the desire to have generational wealth for my family. While in school for my master’s degree in therapeutic herbalism I realized that I could start a business with the knowledge and information that I was obtaining. I also realized that I could still use the nursing knowledge and experience that I have to teach individuals about the safe use of conventional medications and herbs. The products that I have are for issues such as headaches, athlete’s foot, eczema/psoriasis, arthritis and more. The products were made due to personal experience, from the experiences of family and friends, and from the experiences I find common in my community.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest struggle is funding. Not having the finances for supplies and travel can limit what a business owner can do or where a business owner can go. For example, if a business owner does vending events then not having the finances for the vendor fee or for gas to get to the event can keep a business owner from participating in those events. Also, not having the finances for supplies can mean that products are low or out of stock for longer than the business owner desires.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am known for being knowledgeable but also being willing to learn more. I believe that my nursing background sets me apart. When I am providing a consultation, I am able to incorporate the nursing knowledge that I have gained into the information that I give a client regarding the herbs that I recommend. There are situations where certain herbs should not be used when a person is diabetic or if a person has hypertension. There are certain situations where taking an herb may decrease the absorption of a conventional medication. I am able to provide clients with that information. I like to know an individual’s medication and medical diagnosis when providing a consultation for the reasons mentioned.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can support me by spreading the word about my business, providing reviews, getting consultations, and making purchases through my website or when I am vending. Individuals can also follow my business social media pages (Facebook and Instagram).
