Today we’d like to introduce you to Levi Braswell.
Hi Levi, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey as a DJ began long before I ever touched a controller. My wife and I founded Lighthouse Industries, a nonprofit ministry built on a vision she carried in her heart for nearly 20 years. After we had been married for about 10 years, that vision came to life. Our mission was simple but powerful: to shine the light of Christ in a world full of darkness through arts and entertainment.
One of the greatest blessings along our journey came through relationships. In 2020, my friend and current pastor, Jeffrey Whittaker, introduced us to Pastor James Paten, better known as DJ Lyfe. We began attending his church, and he quickly became one of the most influential supporters of our vision. Not only did he encourage us spiritually, but he also opened the doors of his church for our faith-based open mic events. As a Christian DJ, DJ Lyfe brought energy, professionalism, and excellence to every event we hosted, helping Lighthouse Industries establish a strong presence in the community.
As our ministry continued to grow, so did the number of events we were organizing. Because Pastor James was balancing both ministry and DJ responsibilities, there were times when he was unavailable to cover every event. At that point, I was working as a tractor-trailer driver, hauling 80,000 pounds across highways and mountains every day. One day, I found myself thinking about the level of focus and coordination required to safely operate a commercial truck, and I realized that if I could handle that responsibility, I might be capable of learning how to operate DJ equipment as well.
I prayed about it and made a commitment that if the opportunity ever presented itself, I would invest in learning the craft. During the COVID-19 pandemic, that opportunity arrived. Through a stimulus check, God provided the exact amount I needed to get started. I found another pastor who was also a DJ selling his complete setup on Facebook Marketplace, and the equipment cost exactly $1,600—the same amount I had available. With my wife’s support, I made the investment and began teaching myself everything I could about DJing.
What started as filling in at Lighthouse Industries events soon grew into something much larger. I began DJing for artists we managed, traveling with them to performances and concerts. As people saw me working events, they started reaching out and asking if I could DJ for their gatherings as well. One opportunity led to another, and before long I was providing music and entertainment for weddings, mixers, community events, artist showcases, sound sessions, and a variety of other occasions.
Today, I am grateful to be recognized in places I never imagined when I first started. One of the most meaningful moments in my career was being acknowledged by the Kingdom Nightlife Awards in Atlanta. That recognition served as confirmation that I was moving in the right direction and encouraged me to continue using music as a platform to inspire others, support artists, and share the message of hope and faith.
Looking back, my DJ career was never simply about music—it was about purpose. Every step of the journey, from nonprofit ministry to trucking to DJing, has been guided by faith, relationships, and a desire to make a positive impact in the lives of others. What began as a need within our ministry became a calling, and I look forward to continuing to use my gifts to serve communities, uplift people, and shine God’s light through music and entertainment.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey as a DJ has definitely not been a smooth road. While it has been rewarding, it has also been one of the most challenging things I’ve ever pursued. There were many moments when I questioned whether I was good enough and whether people would truly connect with the music I was playing.
One of my biggest challenges was staying committed to my mission. My goal has never been simply to play music people already know. My passion is introducing audiences to new Christian and Kingdom music that represents God in a creative, relevant, and impactful way. I want people to experience the same quality, energy, and frequency they hear in mainstream music, but with messages that inspire, uplift, and point people toward Christ.
The difficulty was that many people naturally gravitate toward familiar songs. Even at church events, people often requested the most popular tracks rather than newer artists they had never heard before. There were times when I wrestled with whether I should continue pushing new music or simply play what everyone already knew. It would have been easier to stay within what was familiar, but I felt called to help expose people to artists and songs that might never reach them through traditional radio or social media algorithms. In many ways, I became a bridge between talented Christian artists and audiences who otherwise might never hear their music.
Another challenge was learning how to keep a crowd engaged with music they weren’t familiar with. At events, people want to dance, have fun, and connect. I had to learn how to read the room and trust the Holy Spirit to guide my song selection in real time. It became a balancing act of introducing fresh music while maintaining the energy and atmosphere people expected. Those experiences taught me how to be more versatile, creative, and intentional as a DJ.
Beyond the music itself, there was also the challenge of balancing life. At the time, I was working as a tractor-trailer driver, managing family responsibilities, investing in my marriage, serving in ministry, and teaching myself an entirely new skill. There were long hours of practice, research, playlist building, and studying different genres to become the best DJ I could be.
Through every challenge, God remained faithful. He gave me opportunities to learn, sharpen my skills, and grow in confidence. Even during moments of doubt, there would always be someone who would come up after an event and tell me how much they enjoyed the music or how the experience impacted them. Those moments of encouragement reminded me why I started and gave me the motivation to keep going.
Looking back, the road has been difficult, but every obstacle helped shape me into the DJ, entrepreneur, and ministry leader I am today. The challenges strengthened my faith, refined my skills, and confirmed that I am walking in the purpose God has placed on my life.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At my core, I am a servant, an entertainer, and a Kingdom ambassador who uses music and events as a tool to bring people together and glorify God. My passion extends beyond DJing; I am committed to creating environments where people can connect, be encouraged, and discover opportunities to use their gifts and talents to positively impact others. Whether through concerts, community events, open mics, or celebrations, my goal is always to create experiences that inspire, uplift, and build community.
I specialize in curating live DJ experiences that are both engaging and intentional. One of the things I am most known for is my ability to read a crowd in real time and create a musical journey that keeps people connected, energized, and fully engaged. I strive to bring positive energy, freedom, and joy through music while introducing audiences to sounds and artists that can inspire and encourage them.
What I am most proud of is my ability to unite people from different backgrounds, cultures, age groups, and walks of life in one atmosphere. There is something special about watching people fellowship, network, celebrate, and simply enjoy one another without division or drama. Creating those moments of connection is one of the most rewarding aspects of what I do.
What sets me apart is my versatility and my purpose-driven approach. I have the ability to connect with diverse audiences and successfully DJ in a wide variety of environments, regardless of age, ethnicity, or event type. More importantly, I view my platform as a ministry. I believe every gift has the power to make a positive impact when it is surrendered to God and used with excellence. My mission is to demonstrate that faith and creativity can work hand in hand, and that regardless of a person’s profession or passion, they can walk in purpose when they dedicate their gifts to serving others and honoring God.
Ultimately, I want people to leave my events feeling inspired, connected, and encouraged. If I can create an atmosphere where people experience joy, community, and a glimpse of God’s love through music and fellowship, then I have accomplished my mission.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something surprising about me is that I really like to use my hands to work on fixing things that are broken and work on various carpentry projects!
