Life & Work with Sam Lewis of National

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Lewis.

Hi Sam, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Conquest Graphics is a family-owned company, and as a 4th-generation family member, my start came early, in the form of simple bindery work, cutting the grass, or cleaning up. I got to see the business from a unique perspective, and I also got to see the hard work that goes into running a company by watching my dad, Chris Lewis.

My personal interests have always been in technology, and once I got involved as an adult, I started to apply my interests to improve efficiency. I got involved in the IT side of the business, where I focused on improving internal systems, streamlining workflows, designing customer-facing experiences, and helping modernize backend operations.

As the company continued to evolve, and my experience grew, so did my role. Over time, I became more involved in business strategy. My focus moved from solving smaller problems to looking more broadly at how technology, operations, customer experience, and innovation connect. That eventually led me into my current role as Chief Business Officer.

Today, a big part of what I focus on is helping Conquest continue to grow while staying true to who we are as a family-owned company. Whether it’s investing in new technology, improving operational efficiency, expanding our capabilities, or creating better experiences for our customers and team members, I’m always looking for ways we can continue building for the future while honoring the foundation that’s been in place for over 100 years.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I don’t think any business that’s been around for over 100 years can honestly say the road has been completely smooth. Over the years, there have been all kinds of challenges, navigating major industry changes, transitioning through each generation, working through the pandemic, integrating acquisitions, handling supply chain issues, and adapting to constantly evolving customer expectations. Challenges are part of running and growing any business, especially in a rapidly changing industry like ours. Weathering these challenges really comes down to the employees. A good team can band together and face enormous hurdles and come out stronger on the other side.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My role today is focused on leading Conquest Graphics by working closely with the team to support efficient operations, growth, and long-term strategy. I specialize in bringing technology to the table to solve problems, and this has certainly defined how people see me internally. I’m incredibly proud of the organization as a whole and our ability to adapt. The team works hard to support each other and change consistently for the better.

As a company, Conquest Graphics specializes in commercial printing, direct mail, signage, web-to-print software, fulfillment, and marketing solutions for businesses and organizations nationwide. I think customers continue to choose us because we’ve worked hard to combine the capabilities and technology of a large print partner with the service, relationships, and responsiveness of a family-owned company. We’re constantly looking for ways to improve turnaround times, expand capabilities, and create better experiences for our customers without losing the personal approach that’s always been important to us.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
One of our core values is “We Succeed as a Team,” and I truly believe that. I couldn’t do what I do without the expertise, knowledge, and support of the people around me. No company survives because of one person. It takes a strong team that’s willing to collaborate, share ideas, learn from challenges, and continue growing together.

Personally, I try to show up every day with the mindset that there’s always something new to learn. I think success comes from staying open to new ideas, continuing to evolve, and surrounding yourself with great people. If we can continue growing the business by investing in our people, maintaining a strong team culture, and working together to adapt and evolve, then I’d consider that a success. The relationships, collaboration, and teamwork behind the company are what truly drive long-term success.
