Life & Work with Virginia Bessette of Chesapeake

Today we’d like to introduce you to Virginia Bessette.

Hi Virginia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started photography back in 2012 as a way to help my family. It was more of a hobby before it turned into something more. I started working in the wedding industry around 2014 and started doing more weddings. My main focus being mainly family portraits. I kept busy with sessions until COVID and than it seemed like my passion may if subsided. 2020 I focused on Tiktok as it was in the comfort of my own home. I started a discord group as a support system for other fellow tiktokers and gain some amazing friendships. I have done a several photoshoots with my dearest friend Taryn, who I met on TikTok and did several shoots for her and for her branding. I’ve done a few shoots here and there.
On TikTok, I’ve been able to show case many of my sessions and the work I do, and would love to travel with my photography.
Besides photography I am a mom of 6, was a volleyball coach, work a full time job and now also do part time work with things on TikTok.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not smooth at all. The Hampton Roads area has tons of photographers. Word of mouth from my clients has helped.
Like I stated previous COVID made me take a step back and I felt like my creativity was lost.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Well I have done a little bit of everything when it comes to Photography. Familes, couples, models, weddings, etc.
Family photography has always been my go to. Maybe because I am a mom myself but I definitely have the patience. I never push a child beyond their limits and let them be in their element because I can capture the best moments in that.

What’s next?
Really the biggest plan is to my own social media platform and with that aligning everything else will eventually follow.
