Meet Blanche Wilder of Muscles In Knead Massage

Today we’d like to introduce you to Blanche Wilder.

Hi Blanche, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My mother started my journey in the art of healing when she took me along to the animal rescue mission in Atlanta, GA. I spent many fulfilling days and weeks feeding and rehabilitating a variety of animals so that they might return to their homes in the wild.

Today, my clients are the two-legged kind but the heart-satisfying feeling I get when I can help another being with their pain is still what drives me — because life is better when we feel better.

I am passionate about Massage for people with cancer, Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage and Hospice massage because when I was going through breast cancer I received massage throughout all stages, surgery, chemo and radiation. I found it to be true, for me, that massage helped to relieve my pain and anxiety.

I had a friend who gifted me with a massage package and I don’t know if she knows how much that meant to me. It gifted me an hour that was mine, away from cancer, something that was good for me, that I didn’t have to worry about paying for. This feeling of an hour away from cancer or whatever transition in life that is happening, is what I strive to provide my clients. A mini-vacation from whatever journey that is being traveled. It doesn’t matter who you are, at what point in your treatment you are at, you can have cozy comfort and control over this one hour in your life. And I am trained to make it safe for you.

And I realize that the word “journey” can be a triggering word for some people. For me the word doesn’t mean a vacation, but means a journey like the one Frodo went on into Mordor. One that is hard and where you are forever changed afterwards. Every journey is different and I am honored to be a part of it.

I have 20 years experience with extensive training in Massage for those living with cancer. Because I am a Certified Manual Lymphatic Drainage Therapist I can safely see patients who are either suffering from Lymphedema currently, or who are at risk for Lymphedema because of radiation or lymph node removal during cancer treatment. I have trained with Irene Smith for Hospice massage and am able to hold space, providing comfort through massage and presence, improving quality of life through end stages.

I can help you on your journey to well-being by offering a relaxing, spa-like atmosphere and customizing your massage therapy to your particular needs. Treatment may consist of a specific massage therapy technique or a combination of techniques.

Take a moment and Breathe in, Breathe out in one long steady exhale, let your shoulders drift down and back, and just Be for 30 seconds.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being in business for yourself is always an adventure! I do not consider myself great at the business side of things but I wouldn’t change any of the ups and downs I’ve gone through, because then I wouldn’t be the person I am now.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Muscles In Knead Massage is where you can take a mini-vacation from stressors of life, big transitions and small daily ones. I specialize in Massage for those Living with Cancer – throughout all stages of treatment, Massage for those with Chronic Illness, Lymphatic Massage – for those Living with Lymphadema and End of Life/Hospice Massage.

As you lie on cozy flannel sheets listening to relaxing music, the massage begins and the daily stressors and aching muscles fade into an oblivious 60 minutes of relief, and all you can comprehend at the moment, is wanting it not to end.

It doesn’t matter who you are, at what point in your treatment you are at, you can have this cozy comfort and control over this one hour in your life. And I am trained to make it safe for you.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I was lucky, the therapist who I went to for massage throughout my cancer treatments ended up being my mentor and friend.
