Hi Daniel , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! I’m Daniel Pruden, owner of That Guy Pet Services, in Blacksburg, Virginia, and I schedule clients as they request. If you have a plan in mind, I am willing to fulfill those ideas and make suggestions so everyone, especially your pet, is happy. Duh! I provide more than common dog walking. I believe mental stimulation and physical playtime is fundamental to having happy and healthy pets. My business is an LLC, is insured, and bonded.
It all began with an idea. Maybe I want to turn a hobby into something more…Do I want to start a business?
So that is exactly what I did and I get to spend my days loving life with your happy pets. I have always been an animal enthusiast having brought creatures home my entire life- as a kid, during college, even on deployment!
I grew up in eastern Virginia, studied art at VCU in Richmond, am an 8 year Army Veteran. I have education in art and outdoor recreation, worked with the forest service as an art and nature interpreter, managed land to foster habitats for local wildlife, and responded to national wildfires for 5 years. I have been involved in dog sports for a decade, and love meeting new animals and their people every day.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As a combat vet learning to communicate effectively has its challenges
Finding out there is compassion fatigue in this profession
People not knowing that this is a professional business and is able to support families.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I research everywhere.
My biggest tools in life are people and listening and learning from them. Everybody has a book they should write in my opinion and i try to be an open book.
