Hi Delhi, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Delhi Molina, I am a Mexican immigrant, and the owner and founder of 420 Body Sculpting in Charlottesville, Virginia. My story really began with my sister. We are extremely close, and we have always been the kind of sisters who dream together, explore ideas together, make plans together, and then find a way to turn those plans into reality. She is very passionate about fitness and owns M BARRE, a barre and body sculpting business in the beautiful town of Coatepec, Veracruz, Mexico. Through conversations with her and the idea of one day creating something together, I became interested in body sculpting and decided to prepare myself professionally. I began studying and training when my youngest son was about one year old. I’m a mother of four, so at that point in my life, I was trying to figure out how to pursue a dream of my own while still being the mother I wanted to be. Being present for my children was very important to me, and I didn’t want to build a career that required me to sacrifice all of my time with them. So for almost two years, while my youngest was still very little, I studied, trained, practiced, and prepared. By the time he was about three years old, I felt ready, I still had fears. I had four children, responsibilities, and absolutely no guarantee that opening a business was going to work. I didn’t even have an established clientele yet. But I had prepared myself, I believed in what I wanted to create, and eventually I decided that I just had to take the chance. That is how 420 Body Sculpting began. I went into it knowing that I might spend the first several months paying the rent, supplies, and advertising out of my own pocket. I was prepared for that possibility because I was starting completely from scratch. At the same time, I had noticed something in Charlottesville that made me believe there was a need for what I wanted to offer. As a Spanish-speaking woman, whenever I wanted certain beauty or body treatments, I often had to travel to another city or even another state. There weren’t many options locally where I could receive those services from someone who spoke my language. I knew how much more comfortable and confident that made me feel, and I thought there had to be other women who felt the same way. What happened after I opened surprised me. Within about two months, the services I was providing were already generating enough to pay the business rent. More months passed, and I never had to start supporting the business from my personal income the way I had expected. The community received me incredibly well. At first, I thought most of my clients would probably be Mexican women, but that wasn’t actually how it happened. Some of my very first clients were women from El Salvador and Honduras. Then came Mexican and Puerto Rican clients, and over time my clientele continued to grow to include women from many different backgrounds, including Turkish women, as well as both Spanish-speaking and English-speaking clients. I especially love how diverse my clientele has become. Women from different cultures and backgrounds have trusted me with their care, and that has made the experience of building my business even more meaningful to me. When I opened, I was primarily prepared in body sculpting and permanent makeup. But as my clients got to know me, they began asking, “Do you do facials?” or any other treatment that I was not offering at that moment. Their questions actually encouraged me to keep learning. I continued my education in skincare and aesthetics, and somewhere along the way I fell in love with facials. Today, they are some of the services I enjoy the most. There is something very special to me about creating a relaxing moment for someone while also helping her take care of her skin and feel better about the face she presents to the world. The funny thing is that I always had big dreams, but one of my biggest dreams was actually to have a small business. I wanted something that I could manage myself. I wanted to decide which days I worked and which days belonged to my family. I wanted to be able to plan a vacation with my children without feeling that my business would fall apart because I wasn’t there every single day. I wanted a business that was successful, but that also allowed me to have a life with the people I love. And that has worked out even better than I imagined. My family has been a huge part of this journey. Every time I need additional training or have to travel to another state to continue my education, my husband and children support me. Many times, they come with me. They get to enjoy a little family trip while I’m training, and then I come home with new knowledge that helps me do my job better. My faith has also been very important throughout all of this. I started with dreams, but I definitely started with fears too. Through those moments, I have always felt that God has been my support, my friend, my Father, and my protector throughout this journey. Today, 420 Body Sculpting continues to evolve with me. I’m beginning to work alongside another professional so that we can expand the aesthetic services available to our clients, and there are still many things I want to learn and many services I hope to offer in the future. I’m still dreaming, still planning, and still putting those plans into action. And when I think about it, it brings me right back to where this story began: dreaming and planning with my sister. Today, we live in different countries and our businesses are thousands of miles apart M BARRE in the town of Coatepec, Veracruz, Mexico, and 420 Body Sculpting here in Charlottesville, Virginia, in the United States, but somehow, they have always remained connected. They grew from many of the same dreams, from our conversations, and from that habit we have always shared of imagining something that doesn’t exist yet and then finding a way to make it real. Distance may have changed where each of us built our dream, but it never changed the fact that we are still dreaming together.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of my biggest challenges has actually come from something that was important to me from the very beginning: protecting my time with my family. As my business has grown, many of my clients have asked for appointments during hours when I’m not normally available. As a business owner, it can be difficult to say no when someone needs you, especially when you genuinely care about your clients and want to accommodate them. But from the beginning, I wanted to build a business without sacrificing the time I share with my husband and my children. Finding that balance has not always been easy. There are times when I make exceptions and end up giving up some of the time I had planned for myself so that I can take care of a client, and I do it with a lot of love because I truly value the women who support my business. I’m still learning how to grow, be there for my clients, protect my family time, and also remember to leave a little time for myself. I think finding that balance has been one of the biggest challenges of this journey.

If there is one thing I would love to share, especially with other women, mothers, and immigrants, it is that your dreams don’t have to look like anyone else’s. I truly believe we all have the potential to create more for ourselves and to transform an idea into something meaningful. As women, we carry a naturally creative energy the ability to imagine, nurture, build, and bring new things to life in so many different ways. Sometimes we just need to trust that part of ourselves enough to take the first step. Your dream doesn’t have to be perfect, enormous, or make sense to everyone else. It simply has to be yours. Give yourself permission to dream, to create, and to discover how much you are capable of.
