Diamond, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey started about eight years ago with a passion for the nail industry. I first began doing nails out of my college dorm room while earning my degree, and that’s where I discovered not only my love for the craft, but also my passion for entrepreneurship. After becoming a licensed nail technician, I started selling professional nail supplies from my mother’s living room, never imagining how far that small idea would grow.
Over the years, that vision led me to open the first Black-owned nail supply store in Virginia, a milestone I’m incredibly proud of because it represents more than just a business it represents breaking barriers and creating access for beauty professionals. As my business continued to grow, I earned my nail instructor’s license because I wanted to educate and empower the next generation of nail professionals.
Today, my work extends far beyond selling products. Through Dime Nail Supply, I mentor aspiring entrepreneurs, provide business consultations, educate beauty professionals, and create opportunities for others to build profitable, sustainable businesses. Every step of my journey from a college dorm room, to my mother’s living room, to opening a storefront, has been driven by faith, perseverance, and a desire to leave the beauty industry better than I found it.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like many entrepreneurs, my journey hasn’t been without challenges. I’ve faced difficulties accessing funding, navigating commercial property issues, theft against my business, and moments where I’ve experienced racism that created additional barriers. I’ve also gone through seasons that felt like spiritual attacks on my purpose. While those experiences were difficult, they’ve strengthened my faith, built my resilience, and reinforced my commitment to keep moving forward and create opportunities for others despite the obstacles.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an artist in many forms. Whether it’s nail artistry, poetry, music as a recording artist and rapper, or entrepreneurship, creativity is at the core of everything I do. I’m best known for creating clean, creative, high-quality nail sets with strong attention to detail.
Beyond my artistry, I’m passionate about educating and empowering others through Dime Nail Supply, mentorship, and business consultations. What I’m most proud of is opening the first Black-owned nail supply store in Virginia and using my platform to create opportunities, inspire others, and help beauty professionals build successful businesses.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I believe every meaningful opportunity comes with some level of risk. For me, risk isn’t about making impulsive decisions it’s about having the courage to move forward even when the outcome isn’t guaranteed. Some of the biggest risks I’ve taken include leaving the security of simply being a nail technician to open a retail storefront, investing in inventory before knowing if it would sell, and continuing to expand the business despite financial challenges and uncertainty.
Every risk I’ve taken has been calculated and rooted in faith, preparation, and a long-term vision. I believe growth rarely happens inside your comfort zone, and many of the milestones I’m most proud of today only happened because I was willing to bet on myself.
