Meet Georgia of Virginia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Georgia.

Hi Georgia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
We lost our home in the economic crash of 2011 and our dogs (fosters & personal) had nowhere safe to go. I signed a lease on an old garage and created that safe place, became state approved and non profit. In 2018 GO RESCUE moved to a 4,300 square ft facility and operated there for another 5 years. I’ve recently downsized due to lack of ongoing participation on every level (very common in Rescue).
GO RESCUE today still gives dogs the care, vetting, and a safe place to lay their head until they find a great home for those who we’re able to help. We’re very reliant on those angels who sponsor our dogs in order to continue giving more dogs the gift of another tomorrow.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Rescue is never a smooth road. There are SO many unexpected vet bills, daily requests to take owner surrenders, while begging for help & sponsors with very limited response. (Even though we have over 20,000 followers…it’s commonly treated like entertainment rather than a mission that deserves real participation.
Rescues with a facility MUST be able to hire staff, meet their many bills, and be able to afford to properly care for the animals, many times there are unforeseen vet expenses that can send the whole operation in a tailspin. Public participation is SO important to a Rescue in order to survive and continue their mission.
Everyone CAN help make a difference!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I started GO RESCUE with literally nothing and grew it beyond my expectations. We’ve taken in SO many medical cases, over 600 “little biters” (I LOVE “fractious” chihuahuas), and hundreds of fearful dogs who weren’t considered adoptable at animal controls but were super sweet once they’re in a less stressful environment.
I’m so thankful for those who have helped in any way, and proud of giving over 2,500 dogs a chance at a good life with loving families.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
When you love what you do…and you make a real difference.
