Meet Joleen Wilson of Virginia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joleen Wilson.

Hi Joleen, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
California roots. A love for beauty. And a soft spot for making a bride feel absolutely unforgettable.

Weddings have been part of my world for as long as I can remember. Growing up in sunny San Diego with florist parents, I was surrounded by flowers, romance, creativity, and the beautiful chaos that happens behind the scenes of a wedding day. I quickly fell in love with the art of creating something beautiful from the very beginning.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My love for transformation started long before I ever picked up a makeup brush professionally. In school, I studied the history of art and music while volunteering with the drama team, where I discovered just how powerful beauty can be. There was something about watching a person transform—not into someone else, but into the most confident version of themselves that completely captivated me.

From there, I went on to Paul Mitchell Beauty School and Advanced Esthetician California, followed by years at Sephora and a whirlwind of freelance work ranging from fashion shows and editorial projects to short films.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a luxury artist and the founder of Makeup Artist Joleen, LLC, specializing in elevated, effortless makeup, hair, and spray tanning for modern brides and their bridal parties.

My approach is very California at heart with the glowy, polished, feminine, and never overdone. I love creating that “you, but your most beautiful self” feeling. The goal is always to enhance, never hide, and create a look that feels just as beautiful walking down the aisle as it does years later in your wedding photos.

What I’m probably best known for is creating a full beauty experience not just doing makeup, spray tan or hair. I’ve built a team that can take care of an entire bridal party while keeping the experience organized, relaxed, and genuinely fun. After years working in the beauty industry, from Sephora and fashion shows to regional leadership roles with major beauty brands, I’ve learned that luxury isn’t just about the final look. It’s about how you feel throughout the entire experience.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
One of the things I value most about my work is the genuine connection I create with every client. I don’t believe beauty should ever feel transactional, especially on a day as personal as your wedding day.

I genuinely get to know my brides: their personality, their style, what makes them feel beautiful, what they’re nervous about, and what they want to remember when they look back at their photos years from now. I care just as much about how they feel in the chair as I do about how they look when they walk down the aisle.

For me, it’s never just about creating beautiful makeup or hair. It’s about creating a calm, positive experience where my clients feel seen, cared for, and completely confident. I want every bride to leave my chair thinking, “That’s me. I just feel like the most beautiful version of me.”

That personal connection is something I never want to lose as my business grows. The artistry is important but the person sitting in my chair will always be more important.
