Today we’d like to introduce you to Khusbu Patel.
Hi Khusbu, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I got laid off from my corporate job in September 2025. It was the best and worst thing that’s happened to me. The worst because I lost a consistent pay check but the best because i was truly free for the first time in a long time and I had the space to pause, reflect, and give my attention to my health and my own passions. After such a long time, I got healthy. I focused on my nervous system, my mental health, my physical health and truly took the time to find who I was again and find what I enjoyed doing. A coffee shop was always a dream of mine, but it was one of those things that seemed out of reach. A mobile coffee cart was less risky and gave me the freedom and lifestyle I was craving.
When I started my working career after college, I started a “bucket” in my savings account named “KPs Dreams” and I added anything I could to that bucket not knowing what I was going to use it for. I so happened to have the exact amount of money in that account to start Scoffee without going into debt. I wouldn’t consider myself a big risk taker so this really seemed meant to be. Something in my gut told me that this would work out and I would regret not trying. If it failed after I gave it my all, then at least I wouldn’t regret the “what if’s”. Scoffee was born at this pivotal turning point in my life.
I always was the type of person that embracing change in my life. I chose to take a risk on something I believed in for the hopes that others would also believe in eventually.
I always dreamed of buying an espresso machine for my personal use at home. I actually bought my first espresso machine and home set up the month before I got laid off after putting it off for years because it was too expensive. Something just gave me the guts to bit the bullet and buy it cause If I didn’t do it now, I never would. I taught myself everything about coffee through YouTube, TikTok, google, instagram, etc. It was all I was watching and reading about.
The name Scoffee was inspired by my dog “Scotch” and “Coffee”. Scotch got me through that period of unemployment that I never expected a dog could do. She brought me joy back in my day, gave me a routine, and has taught me to live in every present moment as if it’s your last. If you meet her, you’d understand.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The start of a business or anything worth working towards is never fully smooth. The bigggest struggle is the mental battles in my own head around things not progressing as fast, not growing as fast as I’d expected or would like to, losing bookings that I really wanted, and lots of “nos”.
Doing this full time has also been a struggle because I don’t have another job to fall back on. Thankfully I had my husbands support (I couldn’t have done anything without him). He’s at every event and always helping behind the scenes that people don’t always see. He also was our stable income for a while. The most recent challenge is that he also got laid off recently so we truly are going all in on Scoffee and taking a big leap a faith.
Starting a business is completely new to me, I’m learning as I go and am enjoying the process even though their are a lot of hard days but I’m choosing to stay optimistic through it I all.
We’ve been impressed with Scoffee, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Scoffee is a mobile espresso bar/coffee cart serving the DMV. We are based in Alexandria, VA but proudly serve the DMV in all their private event coffee catering needs.
We are a mobile espresso bar designed for private events, weddings, celebrations, corporate gatherings, and intimate moments worth savoring. Every drink is crafted with intention, using thoughtfully sourced ingredients and a warm, welcoming approach that makes guests feel at home.
We bring handcrafted espresso drinks onsite at your event for a memorable experience. Think lattes, cappuccinos, americanos, chai, etc. Everything you get at a coffee shop but we bring it to you!
Our motto is “Hospitality first and good coffee always”. We truly believe in the guest experience thats what sets us apart. Anyone can make a good coffee and serve it, but we take it a step further to create a welcoming and hospitable experience for our clients and all of their guests. Human connection is so important to us, we will welcome you to our cart as if you’re entering our own home. One of our favorite things to do is host and Scoffee was such a natural extension of our joy of hosting.
At the heart of Scoffee is the belief that coffee belongs at the table…not rushed, not transactional, but shared. It’s the finishing touch, the conversation starter, the pause between moments.
This business is built on resilience, creativity, and a deep love for gathering. What began as a leap of faith has grown into an experience meant to elevate yours.

What matters most to you?
Human connection and kindness matter the most to me. You never know what anyone around you is going through and I truly believe in being kind to everyone that’s around you no matter who they are. We are all human and I find so much joy rooting for others and the small moments and connections you can have throughout the day with everyone you come across.
