Meet Michael Harris of Richmond (Henrico)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Harris.

Michael, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey began with a deep love for music at an early age. I’m known professionally as Michael (Twin) Harris, a name that comes from growing up entertaining alongside my twin brother, Mitchell Sr. When we were younger, we spent countless hours singing and dancing together, and those early moments laid the foundation for my passion for music. That bond continues today, as my brother occasionally sings with me in a quartet called The Distinguished Gentlemen, alongside Keith Brown and Martin Johnson from Pittsburgh, PA. To this day, my brother remains one of my biggest supporters.

I started by writing poems, and from there my love for words naturally grew into music. Singing and songwriting became my way of expressing emotion, faith, and real-life experiences. As my sound developed, I found myself drawn to genres like R&B, Soul, Gospel, Smooth Jazz, and Funk—especially ballads, where storytelling and feeling truly connect.

Over time, what began as a personal outlet evolved into a purpose. After retiring from the military, and with the continued encouragement from my wife (Jermall), I believed in myself and in what I was creating and wanted to take a chance on myself and my passion. That decision pushed me to take ownership of my creative vision, leading me to grow not only as a recording artist but also as an entrepreneur and CEO/Owner of Harmoniq Entertainment. Based in Richmond, VA, I continue to focus on creating meaningful music that resonates, inspires, and connects with people, while embracing every step of the journey that brought me here.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like most creative journeys, it’s been filled with challenges and uncertainty. Balancing life responsibilities with pursuing a passion required discipline, sacrifice, and patience—especially transitioning from a structured military career into the unpredictable world of music and entrepreneurship.

There were times when progress felt slow and resources were limited, as I’ve been financing everything independently. At times, that reality caused things to pause or slow down, but the creative process never stopped. Doors didn’t open as quickly as I hoped, and while opportunities to showcase my talents came here and there, breaking through was difficult. In an industry where many are hesitant to take a chance on someone unknown, there were moments when people saw the work, had the means to help, yet still chose not to vouch or invest.

That said, I truly thank those who have taken that chance on me—those who’ve given me opportunities and continue to support and believe in what I do. That support has been all the motivation I’ve needed to keep going. Because of that persistence, here I am five projects later in 2025, with two more already in motion for 2026. The journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth it.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a singer, songwriter, and recording artist, as well as the CEO/Owner of Harmoniq Entertainment. I specialize in creating emotionally driven music that blends R&B, Soul, Gospel, Smooth Jazz, and Funk, with a strong focus on ballads. Storytelling and authenticity are at the core of everything I do—I aim to create music that connects on a real, human level.

I’m known for my versatility, consistency, and my commitment to staying true to my sound while crossing genres. What I’m most proud of is building my body of work independently and staying dedicated to the creative process, even when resources were limited. Releasing five projects by 2025, with more on the way, represents persistence, growth, and belief in the vision.

What truly sets me apart is the intention behind my music. Every song I write is created without curse words, vulgarity, violence, or disrespect toward men or women. I want my music to be enjoyed by everyone—whether it’s playing during a long road trip, a family outing, or a quiet moment of reflection. My background, discipline, and life experiences—including my military service—shape my approach to both music and business. I’m focused on longevity, meaningful impact, and creating music that resonates long after it’s heard.

What does success mean to you?
I define success as staying true to who I am while continuously growing—both creatively and personally. Success isn’t just about recognition or numbers; it’s about creating meaningful work, owning my vision, and knowing that my music connects with and impacts people in a genuine way.

For me, success is also about consistency and purpose—being able to continue creating, releasing, and evolving without compromising my integrity. If I’m building something lasting, inspiring others, and remaining fulfilled by the work I’m doing, then I consider that success.
