Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Morgan Emily Martini.
Hi Monica Morgan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Emily and Monica are both military spouses who started as participants with FIT4MOM Alexandria in 2023 after moving to the area with their 1 year old sons; they were looking for community and a routine for themselves and their boys. Slowly, they became more involved: Emily became an instructor and Monica created the Playgroup Captain role. When the previous owner decided it was her season to sell the franchise, Emily and Monica stepped up to become the new owners so they wouldn’t lose the intimacy and personal touch of the current FIT4MOM Alexandria tribe.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The path of ownership has had its fair share of speed bumps along the way. Emily and Monica inherited a 20+ year established franchise, once large (Alexandria and Arlington, VA) and flourishing, to a tribe that was struggling with member retention despite the smaller geographical footprint. Both owners have a professional background in the Healthcare Industry, but not in business management. Thankfully, the national FIT4MOM headquarters and surrounding NOVA franchises have been incredibly supportive in teaching and helping us organize and grow.

FIT4MOM is the nation’s leading fitness program for prenatal and postnatal fitness. At FIT4MOM Alexandria, we provide both mommy & me stroller based classes and mom-only classes. We have 4 different workout formats consisting of full-body strengthening, barre inspired workouts, and agility and cardio. We also have run club sessions and a monthly free walk club. As owners of FIT4MOM Alexandria, we like to be known for the sense of community in Alexandria, VA that we have cultivated for those looking for support during their season & journey through motherhood. We provide Mama Chats by partnering with local professionals to give moms a chance to receive more education and support on a variety of topics related to motherhood, such as access to local lactation consultants, pelvic floor physical therapists, therapists that specialize in all stages of motherhood and family life to name a few. We are most proud of all the moments we hear about regarding a mama who felt seen, heard and supported by joining our tribe, whether for a class, playgroup or as a member for a season. The goal is for a mother to leave our space feeling better about herself regarding her mental and physical wellbeing; this is what sets her up for to better face the challenges and accept the joys of motherhood. This sets us apart from other forms of fitness industry.
What are your plans for the future?
We aim to continue growing deep roots in our community by retaining and gaining members; expanding our local and national partnerships; and offering more services to our members. This includes, but is not limited to, carrying on with the momentum of completing our first session of Run Club & hosting a Summer session; offering an additional two classes this upcoming Fall; and extracurricular activities, such as providing a new summer incentive to our children out of school.
