Meet Robyn Blizzard of Virginia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robyn Blizzard.

Hi Robyn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
It started with my husband losing his 6 figure job due to budget cuts, that left us just living off of his retirement. We had a 6400 sq ft barndominium we were in the process of building as our home, but it was only 70% complete. We were custom building it ourselves and paying cash for each new project. So my husband says “now what do we do”. I said well we have been sharing the place with people all over when we travel for your job and they always ask is it open to the public, soo said “why not give it a shot?” So we talked about it, worked hard continuing to finish the place for about 2 months. Added things along the way in case we went the business route. Then The Roosting Tree came to life in Oct 2025. We choose not to advertise really because we want the place to sell itself. We believe if its meant to be it will all work out.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not, there were definitely many bumps and many adjustments to make. We have had issues with things we built that we thought would look beautiful but ended up not being as functional as intended, so it was back to the drawing board. Of course funding is always an issues with any job, but we made it work, we are blessed.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in event planning and design for both events and woodworking. I can honestly say it isnt just me. My husband and I are a team, things wouldn’t work if we didnt work together. We actually run two businesses The Roosting Tree and Wood & Bark. What sets us apart is our unique wood working, rustic vibes, and genuinely caring about our customers wants and needs. So not only do we have the venue, where we enjoy making people’s special moments come to life, we also build for others. Along with our wonderful clients we get to meet and serve on a regular basis, we have also done things for local restauraunts like The Dogwood in Vinton, The Homeplace in Catawba, and even the youth room & backdrop in the main sanctuary at East Gate Church of the Nazarene. I would say we are proud of everything we build and every event we host. One is never more important than the other because each has its unique meaning or unique look. The other thing that sets us apart is our prices. I love volunteer work, I love giving to others its always been a passion of mine. So when I decided I was going to do this I had two main goals in mind affordability and giving back. I believe everyone deserves to be able to afford to have a place to celebrate their special occassions. I believe giving im giving back to my community. With that being said as of 2028, my goal will be finding local charities to donate 10% of my monthly income to a different charity each month. This way 12 different charities will receive a donation that year and each year following.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I think teamwork is most important to my success. I cant take 100% credit for anything because so many have helped along the way. My husband most of all but many others as well. It takes a team to make things happen whether its having shirts made for the business, having people help with an event, our friends support by spreading the names of our businesses etc. I can say I have felt the support of many. Im very thankful and grateful!
