Rising Stars: Meet Brittany Blake of Virginia Beach, Virginia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Blake.

Hi Brittany, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Photography has always felt like a place where time could slow down for me. From an early age, I was drawn to the way a single image could hold emotion, memory, and meaning all at once. It gave me a sense of stillness in a fast-moving world, and that feeling never left.

I went on to study photography at a college in Norfolk, Virginia, where I was able to deepen both my technical skills and my understanding of visual storytelling. Not long after, I took the leap and opened my own photography business. What began as a creative pursuit quickly turned into something much more meaningful once I started working with couples.

Documenting love stories—real, unfiltered, deeply human moments—completely changed the way I saw my work. I fell in love with weddings and the responsibility that comes with preserving such an important day. As demand grew and the scope of projects became larger, I built a team of trusted photographers so we could take on more weddings while maintaining the same level of care, intention, and storytelling that drew couples to my work in the first place.

Today, my business is rooted in that same love for slowing time and honoring connection—just on a larger scale. Every wedding, every couple, and every story continues to remind me why I started and why this work matters so deeply to me.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. In the beginning, the hardest part was learning the business side of things—pricing, contracts, workflows, and all the behind-the-scenes logistics that aren’t always taught when you’re learning the creative side of photography. There was a steep learning curve, and at times it felt overwhelming.

That said, those challenges lessened over time as I gained experience and built stronger systems. What always made it worth it, though, were my couples. Working with people who trusted me with such meaningful moments, and hearing how much the images meant to them, consistently reminded me why I was doing this. Their support, gratitude, and stories made the growing pains feel small in comparison and kept me moving forward, even during the harder seasons.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My work centers around wedding and creative portrait photography and videography. While I’m primarily known for weddings, I also photograph families and individuals, always with the same documentary-driven, story-first approach. No matter the subject, my goal is to create imagery that feels honest, timeless, and emotionally grounded.

What I’m most proud of is the level of care my team and I put into every single gallery we deliver. Each client’s images are thoughtfully curated and edited with intention—we don’t believe in rushing or treating any story as “just another job.” That care extends behind the scenes as well, from communication to delivery, because trust is a huge part of this work.

I’m also incredibly proud of the team I’ve built, especially having my husband join me as a film photographer. His love for analog photography and storytelling adds another layer of depth to our work and allows us to offer something truly special.

What sets us apart is our genuine love for the craft. This isn’t just a service we provide—it’s something we deeply care about. That passion shows in how we approach each wedding, each session, and each client story, with presence, respect, and a desire to create work that will be meaningful for generations to come.

What are your plans for the future?
Looking ahead, my biggest focus is continuing to grow in the destination wedding space. I’m deeply inspired by the idea of documenting love stories in meaningful places around the world and creating work that reflects not just a wedding day, but an entire experience—location, culture, and connection all woven together.

I’m excited to keep expanding my team and refining our offerings so we can take on more destination weddings and larger-scale celebrations while maintaining the same level of care and intentional storytelling we’re known for. I’m also looking forward to continuing to blend photography and videography—especially film and motion—in a way that feels elevated, nostalgic, and timeless.

More than anything, I’m planning for growth that feels aligned. I want to keep creating work that excites me creatively, serves my couples well, and allows me to travel, tell meaningful stories, and continue building a business rooted in passion for the craft and human connection.
