Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Barnes.
Hi Steven, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Steven Barnes also known as Lil’ Steve a music entrepreneur, promoter, born and raise in Norfolk, Virginia to a good mother and father in 2006 I was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal throat cancer and successfully underwent chemotherapy and radiation I faced challenges as a teen which led me being incarcerated during my teens into my 20s where I earned my G.E.D and starting writing music and performing it for the guys I was around and the all took a liking to it.
Once release I began promoting art local club in my City of Norfolk during my time at the club I met and start working with Carlos Brown of Atlanta, Georgia with his company Real Network Promotions, traveling to different cities and states while networking in the industry. I later on made a connection to Antoine Williams of Richmond, Virginia Def Jam Records with his company Route Runna listening to upcoming artist and referring them to him. Through my connections I endure I good friendship with Nowa Senai of Kentucky an A&R Universal Music Group /Virgin Music I have developed a deep understanding of the music business leading me to creating my online school Steven’s Music University (SMU) to help upcoming artist to learn the industry. Today I am a ambassador for Six Stars Entertainment LLC which produces events over the country promoting and selling tickets I’m also a affiliate of an energy drink (Blu Energy Drink) where I promote the drink sell the drinks through my discount code and wear the merch. Next up I’m building my podcast Talk With Steve which I’ll be speaking on the music industry and promoting brands. In the near future I will start doing youth outreach speaking with the youth.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It was actually a smooth road because all you have to do is get out and get around the right people and never be scared to ask for help.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I study and learn the music business and teaches upcoming artist the business and the correct info for their career I am most proud of my ethic to get up everyday learning and helping others I am different because I don’t take advantage of people and tells them the truht.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
If you are starting out whatever lane you are in attend events for that searing the internet and find people who are into what you are into. I’m grateful for how I started out because I learned how to network.
